Rutgers 250

Price range: $3.50 through $140.00

Perhaps the most well known tomato in the United States.  The original cross of Marglobe x JTD (John T. Dorrance) was made in 1934.  Records indicate that by 1948 the Rutger’s tomato made up 60-70% of the tomato acreage in the US.  Over the years, the strain deteriorated in quality and in 2016 Rutger’s University remade the original cross and then re-introduced Rutger’s 250 to celebrate their 250th anniversary.  Selected for high fruit quality and flavor.  A great choice for home and market gardeners looking for a solid, red, globe-shaped tomato.  Robust, indeterminate plants, 75 days from transplant.
