Ghost (Bhut Jolokia)

Price range: $5.75 through $1,025.00

Formerly the hottest chile pepper in the world at over 1 million Scoville units, as certified in 2007 by The Guinness Book of World Records. Ghost Chili originated in Assam, India. The word Bhut, given from the Bhutias people, means “ghost” and was probably given the name because of the way the heat sneaks up on you when you eat the fruit. Handle seeds and fruits with extreme caution. Plants will act as a perennial if you wish to overwinter them. Fruit set the second year can be tremendous under ideal conditions.

Super hot peppers are tricky to grow. The seeds are difficult to germinate under home growing conditions and they need a long, hot season to produce fruit. Pay close attention to growing instructions.
