ABOUT THE FARM

A.P. Whaley Seed Company strives to offer only the best selections and highest quality seed of open-pollinated, non-GMO, heirloom and cutting edge hybrids to professional growers, the seed trade and home gardeners. On our 175-acre organic farm in southwestern Wisconsin, we concentrate our efforts towards breeding and selecting disease-free, high-performance varieties that are well suited for organic and conventional cropping systems. A. P. Whaley Seed Company is a family owned and operated business, committed to sustainable agriculture.

The farm is a mixture of woods (walnut, oak, cherry and hickory), pasture and tillable acreage. The farm was originally part of a larger dairy, but was put into the Conservation Reserve Program in the 1980’s and was fallow until we purchased the property in 2010.

We feel incredibly lucky to have found such an ideal farm for our company & also land that has not had any chemicals or synthetic fertilizer used on it for over 30 years. In 2015 we expanded our facilities to include an onsite administrative office, warehouse and greenhouse. Our energy efficient seed storage area is underground and the temperature is held at a constant 60° Fahrenheit and 20% humidity. These optimal, very stable conditions insure high germination and seed vigor.

This farm is also the home base for our summer trial gardens and stock seed production plots. Each summer we grow many sizable crops for seed in Wisconsin, however, the bulk of our seed production is done in California, Colorado, Idaho, Chile and Europe. Trial garden tours are available for members of the seed trade & commercial growers by appointment only.
