Southwestern or Western US indigenous bean. Stories say that seeds were found sealed in a clay pot in a cave in New Mexico, and that carbon dating showed them to be 1500 years old. The beans are white and red mottled, and the size and shape of a large kidney. Green pods are best used when small; usually used as a shelled dry bean. They have a pole habit, climbing to 10 feet tall.
